Dots on Dots

blouse: vintage belt: Liz Claiborne skirt and tights: Gap shoes: Zigi SoHo clutch: Jason Wu for Target
necklace: Anthropologie

Ever since Marc Jacobs' Fall 2011 Ready To Wear (RTW) and Stella McCartney's Fall 2011 RTW collections, I've begun to think of polka dots as the new stripes. Today I went for monochromatic navy, played with proportions on the dots on my blouse and tights, and added a little pop of leopard. (Because leopard, like a red lip is almost always a good idea.)

  2. Lucky you! Definitely check the temperature first, as it will probably be chilly! If it's during the day I would wear high-waisted trousers, a striped sweater or thick striped shirt (try a striped shirt in an unexpected color like dark raspberry or neon green), wedges, a bright scarf and big sunglasses. If it's at night I would go for a brightly colored shift dress (maybe in a primary blue) with black opaque tights and black booties and a printed envelope clutch (I like leopard print or perhaps black lace). Try wearing a big scarf as a shawl for elegance and add some sparkle with a statement necklace. Another idea accessory-wise would be to wear silver cuffs on each arm!

I hope this helps! And thank you for reading!

  3. You are very welcome! Being a performer myself, I think it's respectful to dress up for any type of live performance. (excepting a school band concert in the gym, maybe...) For matinee shows, think Sunday morning church clothes, and for evening performances, think casual cocktail wear. For an afternoon showing, try a knee-length, A-line skirt with an embellished tank top and a pretty cardigan with leather wedges. For the evening, wear an LBD (a shift version is my favorite) with strands of faux pearls (I adore my extra-long strand from Dillard's) and nude pumps. Also, for day bring a silk scarf and night a cashmere wrap in case it's chilly in the theatre.

PS: If your seats are far away bring Opera Glasses (pretty mini binoculars) in a beaded clutch! Enjoy the show!
