"Real" Clothes: The Oxford

Sunday, February 5, 2012

It's pretty early. I'm getting out of bed on time, feeling inspired to wear something whimsical, fashion forward, and representative of my personal style. I slip on a floral dress, black ribbed thigh-high socks, and a striped sailor shirt. The look is exactly what I wanted to go for that morning.

The problem?
I get to school and look down and think "What the heck am I wearing???"

If you are a fashionista, or a fashion risk-taker, you've probably had a day similar to the one above. You want to look like an editorial from Vogue, but you fail miserably and wind up looking costume-y. For moments like these, instead of turning to crazy combinations and far-out pairings, look back to your basics: the white tee, the trench coat, denim, and work from there. Don't worry about keeping up to date on trends; instead fill your closet with "real" clothes.

Today's Lesson:
The Oxford: crisp, classic, polished, perfection.

Play It Safe: Work it under a sleeveless dress. Accessorize with riding boots and a statement necklace.
