Midweek Musings: A Production

Thursday, May 3, 2012

So for the past week or so I have completely renewed my love of Broadway musicals. I remember the very day that I fell in love with musicals and the stage and the theatre; that same day I vowed that I would get myself to New York somehow, some way. Because NYC, what is it about you? You're big and loud and tough. (name that musical!) I was five, and living in Germany. One of the CD's my sister and I listened to constantly when we were younger were the Broadway Kids...a group of child Broadway stars who sang various songs from musicals. I had opened up the CD case and my mom was reading aloud the summaries of various musicals represented on the CD, and I decided then and there that I would be a Broadway star. Since then, my fascination with the musical and the theatre has grown tremendously. I invested in vintage musical films on DVD. I listened to my grandmother's Broadway records (Personally I think the songs sound better on vinyl...) and sang famous arias in the shower. And I finally made it to New York, a magical weekend with my dad for my sixteenth birthday. Anyway, my love and appreciation for the musical was renewed after listening to my show tunes Pandora station and a sudden whim to audition for a local theatre production of Roger and Hammerstein's Cinderella. I figure this may be my last opportunity before college to be in a production and I miss the thrill of performing in a show. (haven't been involved in theatre since middle school!) The auditions are next week and I am practicing my audition piece diligently...I'll keep you all updated!
