The Anthem of Casual Cool

Thursday, December 27, 2012

After a white oxford, a denim shirt is the most versatile shirt a woman can own. It can be worn equal parts as a regular shirt, and equal parts as a layering piece. A fashionista dons a chambray shirt both during her daily routine and for special occasions. This shirt is simultaneously classy and rock n' roll.

The best ways I've found to embrace the denim shirt are to use it when trying to make an outfit less complicated and more effortless. The denim shirt is the anthem of casual cool. (Pop the collar when necessary) Throw one on over a concert tee shirt and black skinny jeans. Don denim on denim and experiment with different sizes: tuck an over-sized shirt into high waisted trouser jeans or slip on a fitted shirt with skinnies. Tie a denim shirt at the waist with a high-waisted skirt or let one hang loose over an accordion skirt. Or wear a denim shirt as a jacket over a dress and layer a scarf on top. (the vest above is actually a scarf!) The moral of the denim shirt is that the possibilities are endless:

PS: I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas! My house was abuzz with festivity from the parties to the family dinners to Christmas morning mass and of course, presents! My favorite gift was the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones I am modeling above. Not only do they produce a great sound, but they are the perfect accessory for a stylish wanna-be edgy rocker like myself.

PSS: The denim shirt I'm wearing in this post was borrowed from my fabulous sister Mary Claire, and it is from Gap. MC pairs it with leggings and rolls its sleeves with cardigans and sweaters and proves that this shirt can function for numerous personal styles. Thanks again 'Claire!
