Fists-In-the-Air, Love-is-Real

One of my favorite personal style scenarios is dressing for a concert. Whether it's for an intimate setting like the Jimmy Buffet tribute band, or a costumes-and-fireworks Taylor Swift production, I find each new concert an opportunity to express my personal style within the constraints of the setting and artist. For Taylor Swift's Red Tour last week in Atlanta, I drew inspiration from Taylor's "22" music video. I love the outfit she wears by the pool: the high-waisted shorts, the little tie-front sleeveless shirt, and the polka dot headband. Of course, I had to stick to the color scheme, and red is my favorite color anyway, so the red tank was perfect with my own cutoffs.

In the same tradition I started at the Speak Now Tour, I wanted to write lyrics on my arm like Taylor does at some of her shows. My favorite song from RED is "Starlight" because it is about the Kennedys and because it is generally a fists-in-the-air, love-is-real kind of song. I had several lines from the song on my list of possibilities for my arm, but "don't you see the starlight, don't you dream impossible dreams" spoke to me in particular. First of all, I think it insanely clever of Taylor to incorporate the Bobby Kennedy quote (see my photo below!) into her song about Bobby and Ethel, and secondly, I wholeheartedly believe in fireworks and the realization of seemingly impossible dreams when it comes to love. I'm not afraid to admit I Romanticize love, and I think that's why I relate to Taylor so much. She told the Atlanta crowd that we must be a bunch of daydreamers to have shown up to her show. I am not afraid to daydream impossible dreams.

This was one of my favorite moments from the show: Taylor's cover of "Ho Hey"
