The best thing about this age and this time and this town (Athens) and the next (Nashville?!) is the platform they stage for dreams and the excitement they foster for dreaming big.
Recently, I've felt a little disconnected from myself; I hit a detour on my personal style journey, you could say, and it's been hard getting back on track. What ultimately pulls me back though, (as I've noticed each time) is the human spirit's power to imagine great things and to decide that its story will have a happy ending. My spirit, my dreams, my happily-ever-after.
College is a great leap in one's personal style journey because this is really the time to figure out all the little pleats and seams and stitching that make up one's spirit. College is the time to trade in your black accordion british school girl skirt for some business casual pants and pumps (#businessmajor), but it's also time to trade in your high school after school waitress apron for real-world experience. On the note of real-world experience, I bring you my latest big dream with the humblest excitement: to intern for a record label or venue.
While attempting to study for my accounting quiz on Monday (#easilydistracted), the thought of working for Atlantic Records or Big Machine Records or EMI Group (London?!) popped into my head and I couldn't shake the feeling. And then I sat here in the Chi O study room remembering that I live in one of the best music cities in the southeast, with acts like R.E.M. and the B52's and Lady Antebellum and John Mayer crediting Athens as an important influence on their careers, and everything seemed overwhelmingly appropriate. Athens is home to some 14 record labels, 13 recording studios, and infamous venues from the Georgia Theater to the 40 Watt Club to Hendershot's Coffee Bar. I can't stop researching places to work and study and learn. It's exciting dreaming big dreams. It's exciting having your whole life ahead of you. I'll keep you updated. xoxo
