Last week I was caught in the rain without a rain coat, wellies, or an umbrella. Siri and the weather app had failed me, and I felt betrayed. This wasn't a light sprinkle either, it was a full-on downpour, monsoon style: grey skies, thunderous drops pounding into the pavement, streams of water cascading from rooftops and rushing through the streets. In college, you live most of your life outside, getting from class to class, so to be left without any sort of elementary protection means showing up either with very frizzy, very unlike-Beyonce windblown hair or looking like you very casually just swan dived into a swimming pool.
Though last week I forgot my umbrella all together, remembering it wouldn't have been much help at all. My current umbrella is one I picked up from a street vendor in New York who makes money from stranded people like me. It was the most terrible piece of you-know-what and spent more time flipping upward after catching the wind and less time keeping me dry. Consequently you forget them too, so overtime you have 80 of these and are still always without an umbrella.
Long story short, I am in the market for a new umbrella, and thought I'd share some of my favorites from my recent online window-shopping. I am particularly drawn to bright colored or patterned ones that will make anyone smile on the dullest of days.
