Ina Garten's Blondies Recipe

For the leadership class I am in, we are divided into groups for a service learning project. Our group (shoutout to Jake, Emmeline, Kat, and Avery... GO TEAM!) is putting together a sustainable fundraising plan for S.H.A.A.R.E. or Senior Home Assistance and Repair: a local not-for-profit that supports the elderly community here in Athens by providing assistance to those without the resources or family in town to help.

We held a percentage night at Your Pie (a favorite born-in-Athens establishment of mine) and in exchange for attending, I told my classmates I'd bring them homemade Blondies as a thank you. As a giant Ina Garten fan, I knew I had to give her world class recipe a try.

Ina Garten's Chocolate Chunk Blondies

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Servings: 15 Blondies


2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 package semisweet chocolate chunks 
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts (optional, I left them out)


1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour an 8 x 12" baking pan. 

2. With an electric mixer, blend butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar on high for 3 minutes. Change to low setting and add vanilla extract. Add eggs one at a time while scraping the bowl. 

3. In a small bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, and kosher salt. Slowly add flour mixture to butter mixture. Fold in chocolate chunks and walnuts with a rubber spatula. 

4. Spread the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes exactly. Don't over bake - a toothpick may not come out clean, but that's the way they're supposed to be...gooey and delicious!

Obviously these turned out amazing because they have *2* sticks of butter in them. The top was all buttery and crisp like a pastry and inside was glorious chocolatey goodness. Live while we're young, I say! Enjoy the calories while we still have high metabolisms! Ce la vie!
